CAT engages communities across Cornwall

NT walk posterCornwall Arthritis Trust has been working hard to engage with communities across Cornwall, creating opportunities for people living with arthritis or other musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions to connect with others through movement, wellbeing activities, and creativity.

Accessible Guided Walks

Cornwall Arthritis Trust has partnered with the National Trust at Trelissick to offer free, accessible guided walks for people who may be less mobile, particularly those living with arthritis or an MSK condition.

Participants can choose between a 0.5km or 1km route through the beautiful gardens, both of which include plenty of resting points and scenic viewpoints along the way. Following each walk, there is an opportunity for attendees to socialise and connect over refreshments.

Chair-Based Pilates

Also, in partnership with the National Trust at Trelissick, CAT delivers monthly chair-based Pilates sessions. These have proven extremely popular, with participants providing excellent feedback.

The sessions focus on encouraging people to become more active, improve bone and joint health, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of connecting with others in a supportive environment.

Freedom to Move Sessions with CreativiTEA

Working alongside Art Connexion, and particularly artist and poet Sally Crabtree, CAT has developed innovative Freedom to Move sessions, which incorporate the CreativiTEA programme.

These informative and interactive sessions provide education about arthritis and MSK conditions, helping people understand how to live well with a long-term health condition. Each session includes a gentle practical movement activity, alongside creative opportunities to sing, move, write, and participate in arts and crafts activities.

The community groups CAT has worked with have responded enthusiastically, engaging fully and enjoying the opportunity to learn, connect, and express themselves creatively.

Communications

Cornwall Arthritis Trust continues to expand its communications and outreach activities, sharing information about the charity, services, and opportunities through their website and social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram. They have also launched a quarterly e-newsletter to keep our community informed about the latest developments, events, and opportunities.
