The Wales MSK Conference took place in Cardiff on World Arthritis Day, 12 October 2023. ARMA CEO Sue Brown presented alongside the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Frank Atherton and the Health Minister, Eluned Morganon.

The Minister and the CMO delivered speeches covering the scale of the challenge in terms of the number of people living with MSK in Wales – nearly a million – as well as the impact of the conditions on quality of life; both spoke about the importance of primary and secondary prevention regarding MSK. The Minister spoke about her Government’s plans to reduce waiting times on planned care services that are used by people with MSK conditions, about plans to set up a National Clinical MSK Network to drive improvement and sharing of best practice in MSK services across Wales; the aim to upstream MSK care where appropriate and provide a more holistic person-centred approach.

To mark World Arthritis Day, the Welsh Government launched their Quality Statement for MSK Health, setting out their aspirations to improve services and help people with these issues.
