The first National Orthopaedic Alliance webinar for 2022 will look at national and international recruitment.

Probably the biggest issue impeding orthopaedic surgery recovery is staffing. Many members of staff have left the NHS, retired early or have long term medical and/or mental health issues that limit their ability to work.

This has resulted in staffing shortages across various orthopaedic services in particular, theatre staffing. Providers are desperate to retain staff but also want to recruit the best people for the job which sometimes means looking overseas.…

Online Pain Toolkit 5-day workshop

Online Pain Toolkit workshop for UK and English-speaking EU residents
Presented by The Pain Toolkit – the home of supported pain self-management.

Many people may not have access to pain management programmes and so the Pain Toolkit has organised a team of experiences coaches to run a 5-day (2.5hrs a day) workshop. The workshop is open to people living with persistent pain, and open to maximum of 10 participants. Pain Toolkit will be running three workshops during 2022 in Canada and Australia.…

The session included a powerful presentation from orthopaedic patient, Val Harvey, who has shared her journey throughout the pandemic with the NOA and joined the webinar for an update. Paul Jenkins, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Scottish Committee for Orthopaedic and Trauma (SCOT) looked at how COVID-19 has impacted orthopaedic services in Scotland, and the programme of remobilisation, redesign and recovery. September is Pain Awareness Month from The Societal Impact of Pain. Pain Awareness Europe (PAE), in collaboration with other organisations in Europe, is holding an online event on 7 September, 14:00-15:00 CEST (15:00-16:00 British Summer Time). BackCare’s pain management webinar

The basis of the webinar was to provide a closer insight into back pain whatever the cause and to evaluate alleviating back pain from three different angles, these being: therapies, minimally invasive surgery and medication, with each area represented by an expert in the field.

Dr Brian Hammond PhD, Vice President of the National Back Pain Association (more commonly known as BackCare) discussed therapies; Dr Basil Almahdi, Consultant Pain Specialist analysed surgery and minimally invasive treatments of problems caused by degenerative spinal disease; and Dr Anthony Ordman, past president of the pain medicine section of the Royal Society of Medicine, reviewed medicines with a special interest in cannabinoids.…
