Using the Spider Tool in physio and OT assessment and treatment of hypermobility
Wednesday 17 June 2026, 19:00 – 20:15 BST
Online (Zoom)
Calling all Physios, OTs, GPs, Rheumatology teams, students…and more!
The Hypermobility Syndromes Association wants to enable a better understanding about how useful the Spider Tool can be in the assessment and treatment of hypermobile patients to improve treatment options, care and outcomes.
The Spider is a questionnaire created for people with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) or Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). It has eight sections that assesses the different symptoms people with HSD/hEDS may have. The validated Spider Tool has provided a huge step-change in helping clinicians to understand, map and support the wide range of symptoms people with hypermobility can experience including: “pain, fatigue, musculoskeletal symptoms such as joint instability and altered sensation, difficulty with digestion, bowel and bladder function, heart problems including POTS, anxiety and depression.” We think all clinicians supporting hypermobile patients should know about it. As the Spider Tool emphasises, symptomatic hypermobility is about much more than ‘bendy’ joints.
Session Overview:
This session will run from 7-8.15 pm and will include:
- An introduction to the Spider Tool and the domains that it covers (e.g. pain, fatigue, anxiety and depression, gastro, cardiac issues etc.)
- How this tool can help clinicians, including physios, OTs and GPs, better understand and support hypermobile patients’ full range of symptoms
- Understanding the impact of the links to neurodivergence
- Other co-morbidities
- South Tees Patient Outcomes – mapped using Spider Tool
- Rehabilitation Goals for patients with symptomatic hypermobility
- Q&A
The Zoom session will be recorded; please register to receive replay link once live.
