NRAS is proud to announce they have launched a new online tool aimed at helping individuals identify early signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic autoimmune condition that affects around 400,000 people in the UK. If left untreated, it can cause long-term joint damage and affect other organs such as the lungs, heart, and eyes. Early diagnosis is crucial to managing the disease and preventing irreversible harm. 

To support this, NRAS has introduced the “Is it RA?” Symptom Checker, a user-friendly online resource developed with input from leading rheumatology experts.…

RA Awareness Week 2025 is next month!

NRAS AwarenessMark your diaries for RA Awareness Week 2025, which is taking place September 15th – 19th 2025, with the theme centred around teaching people about the symptoms of RA.

The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) has put together a symptom checker which will go live next month to help raise the awareness of this invisible condition and get more people diagnosed if they are unknowingly showing symptoms. More details to follow, so keep your eyes peeled!

NRAS Live – MensRHEUM

Please join NRAS for the next NRAS Live event on Wednesday 27th November, 7pm. This month, it’s Men’s Health Awareness Month and in celebration, NRAS will be highlighting the importance of men’s health, especially for those living with rheumatoid arthritis.

What effect does RA have on your eyes?

Please join NRAS for their next online event on Wednesday 30th October 2024, 7pm. The subject for this month’s NRAS Live is eye complications in adults with RA and children with JIA.

Expect to learn some of the common eye-related issues people with rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis encounter, how to spot the symptoms, what to do if those symptoms arise, potential treatments and much, much more.

RA Awareness Week 2024: Stop the Stereotype

This year for Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week 2024 (16-22 September) the theme was #STOPtheStereotype, focusing on dispelling the frustrating stereotypes that surround this incurable, invisible condition. The 450,000 people living in the UK with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) face people making assumptions about their condition, hearing comments along the lines of ‘you look fine how can you be unwell?’, ‘you are far too young to have arthritis’, ‘it’s just your joints getting old?’ amongst many others.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Mela event for the South Asian community

Join NRAS on 13 October 2022, 9:30am-4:00pm, at Leicester Racecourse for the Rheumatoid Arthritis Mela event for the South Asian community.

The event is open to anyone who has rheumatoid arthritis, as well as their family members, friends or carers. You’ll have an opportunity to talk to others with the condition, hear from our guest speakers and health professionals in attendance. Free lunch will be provided also.

New video: How to self-examine for tender and swollen joints in rheumatoid arthritis

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the delivery of healthcare services, creating challenges for healthcare professionals and people living with musculoskeletal conditions. Patients are increasingly required to monitor their own disease activity and report on their condition during remote or virtual consultations.

To address this, the Centre for Epidemiology Versus Arthritis has been working on the REmote MOnitoring of Rheumatoid Arthritis (REMORA) study. REMORA is a smartphone app study that encourages people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to monitor and record their daily symptoms.…

NICE Quality Standard – Rheumatoid arthritis in over 16s

In January 2020, NICE published an update on the Quality Standard for rheumatoid arthritis in over 16s (QS33). This quality standard covers assessing, diagnosing and managing rheumatoid arthritis in over 16s. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.

NICE thanked organisations that submitted comments during the consultation period. All consultation comments were considered by the advisory committee (QSAC) and are documented in the minutes of this meeting.
