Versus Arthritis has developed ten new stretching ‘follow along’ videos specifically to help people with arthritis to maintain flexibility and to help relieve stiffness.
The 15-minute ‘follow along’ format means that the videos can be easily incorporated into people’s daily routine. All of the exercises are designed to be done at home with some of the fun movements making use of everyday household objects.
This video series will form a key part of Let’s Move, a dedicated programme funded by Sport England for people with arthritis who want more movement in their lives.
This further investment comes at a time when many of us are looking for ways either start exercising or to find the right activities which fit with our lifestyle. Keeping moving is an essential way for people living with the pain and fatigue of arthritis to manage their condition – strengthening and stretching the body can reduce pain, stiffness and fatigue as well as providing a myriad of other physical and mental wellbeing benefits.
There are seven follow-along videos in the ‘tailored stretching’ series which focus on different areas of the body:
- Shoulder
- Knee
- Finger, hand and wrist
- Neck and back
- Elbow
- Hip
- Ankle, foot and toe
The exercises are designed to be done at home with some of the fun movements making use of everyday household objects. The videos feature the commonly recommended exercises for people with arthritis and related MSK conditions and incorporate a demonstration and a follow-along portion for the recommended number of repetitions for each exercise. The videos are led by Physiotherapist Jay Milomo who has expertise in arthritis and related MSK conditions accompanied by James and Sylvia who have with arthritis.
In addition to the tailored stretching series, Jay also leads a three-part full body stretch series to combat morning stiffness, increase flexibility during the day and to provide a relaxing evening bedtime stretch. The series is designed to give you the tools you need to help get more movement in your life and give you more confidence.
