ORUK is one of the leading funders of MSK research, working in partnership with other charities and academic institutions. This year it has its strongest ever line-up of funding opportunities for MSK researchers.
BOA/ORUK Research Fellowship 2025
The BOA & Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK) are pleased to announce a joint research fellowship, with the goal of developing a pipeline of research-active orthopaedic surgeons. This scheme will award two fellowships of up to £65k for a project in any area of orthopaedics each year. Application deadline 14th July 2025.
ORUK/BHS fellowship
The British Hip Society (BHS) and Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK) are offering a full-time, 2-year research fellowship of up to £110k, to start by no later than August 2026. The focus of this year’s BHS/ORUK Research Fellowship is to invite researchers to develop applications that are aligned with the missions of the society “to promote the very best care for patients with hip related conditions”. In particular, we welcome applications that address this year’s theme of ‘inequality of access to healthcare’ in hip surgery. Application deadline 4th July 2025.
Versus Arthritis, ORUK and Kennedy Trust: Research Facilitation Fund
This partnership between Orthopaedic Research UK, the Kennedy Trust and Versus Arthritis, provides support for patient and public involvement (PPI) activity in musculoskeletal research.
This call for applications aims to address the fragmented infrastructure for PPI in musculoskeletal research across the UK. It also seeks to tackle issues of limited pre-award PPI funding and support, as well as insufficient access to patient groups during this initial stage of research. The goal is to enhance and expand the existing networks and resources, making them available for the broader MSK research community, regardless of researchers’ seniority or geographical location within the UK.
Application deadline 23rd July 2025.
Joint RCSEd – ORUK Research Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery
ORUK is proud to work in partnership with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) to support advancements in Orthopaedics through this unique research fellowship. Applicants must be a Member or Fellow of the College in good standing. Surgical trainees who are within a year of completing the MRCS and intend to join the RCSEd are also eligible.
Application deadline 1 July 2025.
