Free sport and exercise medicine seminars

Bookings are now open for an upcoming series of free sport and exercise medicine seminars delivered by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine that will explore current issues relevant to all SEM practitioners.

Running every Thursday evening in April, the sessions will feature presentations from leading clinicians and academics as well as those with lived experience. MACP AGM 2020 – online

Due to COVID-19 and current restrictions, this year’s Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists AGM will be held virtually via Zoom webinar on Monday 30 November 2020 at 6.30pm.

The AGM provides each member with an opportunity to hear what the MACP has achieved in the last year and what the MACP strategy and objectives are for the coming five years.

Roadmap to FCP Practice

Health Education England has published First Contact Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners in Primary Care: (Musculoskeletal) A Roadmap to Practice. The document provides a clear educational pathway from undergraduate to advanced practice for clinicians pursuing a career in primary care.

As MSK first contact practitioners (FCPs) move into primary care, Health Education England is funding the development of supervisors and working in partnership with leading clinical organisations to build capacity.

There is a drop-down list on the HEE website and a link to register for these courses including from ARMA members the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine.

SOMM’s courses for portfolio route supervisors

Great news that the HEE Roadmap to Practice for First Contact Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners in Primary Care (Musculoskeletal) was published on 15 October! The Roadmap is available through the HEE website and provides a clear educational pathway from undergraduate to advanced practice for clinicians wishing to pursue a career in MSK primary care.

SOMM is delighted to be one of the organisations running courses to train supervisors to take clinicians through the portfolio route described in the Roadmap.

Supervisors need to be:

  • Working in MSK as an Advanced Practitioner with a postgraduate Master’s degree;
  • In a current team lead post in MSK and hold a postgraduate Master’s degree in MSK; or
  • Working as a Consultant Physiotherapist working in MSK

The courses will be able to take a maximum of 14 places and are open to a maximum of 2 supervisors per Trust/CCG.…

ESCAPE-pain: using education and exercise to support people with chronic joint pain

Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) has worked with ESCAPE-pain and the Health Innovation Network to develop two e-learning resources, aimed at helping healthcare professionals and exercise instructors understand the principles behind the ESCAPE-pain programme – facilitating group education and exercise sessions for people living with chronic joint pain and learning how the programme may be implemented in their organisation.

BOA Virtual Congress 2020

The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) will be running a virtual Congress during 15-18 September 2020. Apart from the traditional four day event, they have also taken the decision to extend the event into the following week 21-25 September with the primary focus on abstracts and trainees.

Registration for BOA Ortho Update 2021 course now open

The BOA Ortho Update Course 2021 (previously known as the BOA Instructional Course) will give delegates the opportunity to access new understanding and support preparation for the FRCS exam.

Given the current rise in COVID-19 cases across the UK the BOA has taken the decision to make this course fully virtual. The course will run for half a day on the morning of Saturday 9 January. FSEM Membership Exam Part One going ahead

The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine is pleased to confirm that this year’s FSEM Membership Examination in Sport and Exercise Medicine Part One will go ahead as scheduled on 9 September 2020. To minimise disruption caused by COVID 19, the closing date for those wishing to sit the examination has been extended to 31 July 2020.

The examination is administered by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and places can be booked by visiting their website. It will be available at test centres in Edinburgh, Birmingham, Dublin and Kuala Lumpur.…
