The Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine has taken the step of postponing all its courses scheduled to run in the coming months to the end of June 2020 (see below for Injection Courses information). Alternative dates will be advised as soon as they are available. We shall be keeping the situation under review and will advise on any further steps as necessary.

Aspiring to Excellence programme 2020 open for applications

Following a successful start for the first cohort, applications are now open for the Aspiring to Excellence programme in 2020. The programme is designed to encourage and recognise service improvement in axial SpA (AS) care and is a strategic partnership between NASS, BRITSpA and sponsoring companies AbbVie, Biogen, Novartis and UCB.

Whilst COVID19 is impacting on us all, NASS is keen to keep driving forward as much as possible and being practical with Aspiring to Excellence, and we welcome applications. Following the successful launch of Versus Arthritis’s Musculoskeletal Champions programme in 2018, they’re recruiting the third cohort of inspirational leaders committed to championing change in musculoskeletal (MSK) health care.

If your application to this programme is successful, you will be coached to develop your personal leadership skills, and drive forward a service improvement project with an MSK focus.

Moving Medicine – Active Conversations

Many of us know that our patients’ lives could be so much better if they move just a little more. Active Conversations has been developed by Moving Medicine in partnership with the Academy for Health Coaching and is a practical, evidence-based online learning course worth 16 CPD points, that teaches clinicians how to have quick, effective and positive conversations that encourage patients to do more physical activity.

New course: Consultation and Clinical Examination Effectiveness in MSK Medicine

The Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine has launched a new course in collaboration with Effective Professional Interactions (EPI), aimed at first contact practitioners – GPs, Allied Health Professionals and Nurse Practitioners.

The two-day course aims to increase consultation and clinical examination effectiveness in MSK Medicine and includes how to exclude red flags.

Physical activity e-learning programme

Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) has worked with Public Health England and Sport England to launch a new physical activity e-learning programme to help healthcare professionals to champion physical activity with patients.

The e-learning programme, which is aimed at GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals, will familiarise the learner with the UK Chief Medical Officers’ Physical Activity guidelines.

This e-learning course prepares GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals to champion the benefits of physical activity with their patients and, in doing so, help prevent and manage a range of common physical and mental health conditions.…
