NRAS is proud to announce they have launched a new online tool aimed at helping individuals identify early signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic autoimmune condition that affects around 400,000 people in the UK. If left untreated, it can cause long-term joint damage and affect other organs such as the lungs, heart, and eyes. Early diagnosis is crucial to managing the disease and preventing irreversible harm.
To support this, NRAS has introduced the “Is it RA?” Symptom Checker, a user-friendly online resource developed with input from leading rheumatology experts. The tool presents five key questions designed to help users assess their symptoms and determine whether they should seek medical advice.
“The ‘Is it RA?’ Symptom Checker will be an invaluable tool for people experiencing unexplained soreness, swelling, and stiffness lasting more than six weeks,” said Peter Foxton, CEO of NRAS. “[It will] empower people to take control of their health, start conversations about unexplained pain, and seek timely support. Early diagnosis is essential, and this tool can help guide people toward the right next steps.”
The launch of the symptom checker coincides with RA Awareness Week 2025, that took place from 15th to 19th September. By increasing public understanding of RA and encouraging early action, NRAS hopes to improve outcomes for those living with the condition and reduce the time to diagnosis.
