Of course we can
|
|
|
The majority of people with an MSK condition will rarely, if ever, need secondary care for that condition. All of them will need primary and community care. This is where people access MSK rehab, self-management support and a wide variety of treatment. Yet the main focus of the NHS remains hospitals. It’s what politicians talk about, what the media covers and where the majority of the attention of local systems focuses.

The King’s Fund has just published a report, Making Care Closer to Home a Reality, outlining why this problem occurs and some possible solutions. The report contains just one reference to MSK, but if even a few of the solutions suggested were implemented it could make a big difference to people with MSK conditions.
|
More leadership focus on primary and community services, raising the status of working in this sector, more long term strategy and less focus on crisis. All of this would help put community MSK services closer to where they need to be.

Co-production in action – voices heard and lessons learned
|

As we prepare for publication of the report of the ARMA Inquiry into MSK and health inequalities, we look back at how the voices of those with lived experience of MSK conditions have been vital – from the initial evidence gathering to discussion of the dissemination plan.
|
|
|
|
|
At the inception of the inquiry process we recruited a panel of paid lived experience experts who brought their unique perspectives of different MSK conditions, backgrounds, and experience of the health system and MSK services to discussions.
|
Speaking about the panel’s fundamental importance to the inquiry Sue Brown, CEO ARMA said: ‘The ultimate aim of the report is to improve support and outcomes for people with MSK conditions. We can’t do that without hearing their views. Recruiting the panel meant we had more detailed feedback from a lived experience viewpoint across the whole project. Their input influenced every aspect of the report and gave us confidence that the content and recommendations would deliver.’

In the lead up to the Budget, ROS would greatly appreciate it if you were able to raise the campaign and its aims in any meetings you have with Parliamentarians or officials and post on social media about the campaign.

NRAS Live: NEIAA 5 years on
|
Join the monthly NRAS Live on Wednesday 28th February. This month, Clare will be in discussion with Professor James Galloway, who will be presenting 5 years of the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA). James is the Analytics Lead for the NEIAA and an Academic Rheumatologist, Senior Lecturer at King's College London.
