You own what you create: complexity and MSK services
|
|
|
I have just finished facilitating one of our regional meetings bringing together stakeholders to talk about what’s happening at the local level with MSK services. It’s clear there is a lot of willingness to do something, despite a lot of confusion around who leads on MSK at an ICS level. A lot of questions were asked at the meeting. Where are the MSK targets being reported? Are the ICBs aware of what’s happening? We’ve got a case to introduce a Fracture Liaison Service, but how do we get anyone to listen? And practical suggestions such as the possibility of setting up an MSK community of practice.

MSK Service Improvement - Local meetings
|
|
|

ARMA is organising a series of meetings for people to discuss ways to improve MSK services in their local areas. Professionals, third sector representatives and people with lived experience of MSK are invited to come along and share thoughts and ideas.
|
|
|
|
What does each meeting aim to achieve?
|
- Bring together a wide range of stakeholders with an interest in improving or transforming MSK services.
- Share examples of improvement and transformation work happening in the region.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Identify any barriers to progress and consider ways to address these.
- Consider the system – primary, community, secondary services and wider community aspects.

Empowering the next generation of MSK Innovators
|
Applications are now open for the MSK Innovation Accelerator programme, hosted by MedTech SuperConnector and part funded by Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK). The programme is designed to accelerate the development of musculoskeletal innovation and thereby create and scale early-stage MSK ventures across the UK. It will involve a 6 month intensive learning journey, providing participants with entrepreneurship training, masterclasses and and access to expertise.

Government’s sports strategy highlights role of MSK Hubs
|
The government has announced ambitious plans to get an additional 3.5 million people physically active by 2030. The announcement was accompanied by the publication of a report, Get Active: A strategy for the future of sport and physical activity, which featured MSK Hubs as a case study of how sport and physical activity can help people ‘live healthier, longer and happier lives’.

BASRaT launches neurological rehabilitation module
|
BASRaT has launched a neurological rehabilitation module to enable BASRaT registered Sport Rehabilitators to safely use their high-level exercise rehabilitation knowledge and skills with a wider variety of patient populations and to work more effectively as part of the overall healthcare team. Developed by specialist Physiotherapists and medical experts, this module is delivered online via an education portal for BASRaT registrants and has been added to the core curriculum for Sport Rehab students.

NOA Annual Members Conference 2023
|
The third NOA Annual Members' Conference will take place on Thursday 19 October 2023 from 8:30am - 4:30pm at Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, Birmingham. Registration is now open and closes on 1 October 2023. Staff from NOA member organisations are invited to sign up to secure their free place.

The recording is now available for the NOA webinar, Learning from Implant Analysis at Revision Surgery held in early September. Speakers were Jason Wilson, Strategy Lead - Medical Devices and Surgery, NHS Implant Analysis Service and Professor John Skinner, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon & Director of Research and Innovation Centre, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust.

Are you an axial SpA Changemaker?

As part of the Act on Axial SpA campaign, NASS has a created a brand new award to recognise the great work that health care professionals are doing to reduce the time to diagnosis. Our aim is to encourage as many health care professionals to join us by undertaking a series of actions to ensure that every person with axial SpA is diagnosed within a year of symptom onset.

Walk Yourself Happy - foot health chapter
|
Royal College of Podiatry MSK lead, Dr Helen Branthwaite has contributed a chapter on foot health and wellbeing for Julia Bradbury’s newest book on walking: ‘Walk Yourself Happy.’ Poor MSK health affecting the feet and the lower limb impacts around 30% of the UK population, and not being able to walk has a wider impact on wellbeing.

Good Boost is re-defining national policy
|
Good Boost has been recognized in the UK Swimming Industry Report 2023, cited as an exemplar of "how pools can be harnessed to support the NHS." There is a UK and global sector shift from exercise and fitness to health & wellbeing, and Good Boost is leading the product and service to enable this sector-wide transition.

Outpatients Strategy Survey
|
The Patients Association is working with NHS England and the Royal College of Physicians in a collaborative effort to improve outpatient services. They are keen to hear from people who have recently experienced NHS outpatient services. They have launched a survey to gather the experiences of recent users of outpatients, which you can find by clicking on this link.

MSK Conference 2023
|
The highly successful MSK Conference will return to Therapy Expo on 22 and 23 November 2023 at the NEC Birmingham. Brought to you by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (FSEM), MSK Partners Network (MSKPN), and National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society (NASS) who are working together in partnership, with the support of a number of MSK professions and subspecialities to put together another exciting programme.
