SOMM’s scheduled courses

SOMM’s next Foundation course is due to be held in London in September, and all courses following are still scheduled to take place at the moment. The Society is keeping a close eye on advice as the lockdown eases.

MSc Musculoskeletal Medicine

The good news is that the next run of the MSc Musculoskeletal Medicine has been confirmed as definitely going ahead as planned this year. Induction will take place during the week beginning 7 September 2020 but will now be conducted remotely.

The Research Methods Module – the first module taken by students – will be delivered in an entirely online distance-learning format and will be starting later in September.

Students may register their interest or apply now and final details will be confirmed when available. For more information, please contact admin@sommcourses.org.

SOMM continues to monitor the situation with regard to corticosteroid injections for musculoskeletal lesions. As the current guide stands [1], they are not recommended during the COVID-19 pandemic and patients must be assessed on a case-by-case basis to assess an individual’s risk. Since it is unlikely that students will be able to complete the necessary supervised injections for their assessed portfolio, SOMM’s injection courses will not be reintroduced until at least November 2020.

General information can be found on SOMM’s website www.sommcourses.org.
