Following on froom the publication of the Global Burden of Disease study, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the Lancet have published a version focusing on UK data in particular.

The report finds that musculoskeletal disorders account for nearly one third of the entire burden of disability in the UK, which is increasing rapidly as a proportion of overall burden of disease due to our ageing population. Low back pain is the single biggest cause of disability, followed closely by osteoarthritis.
