ARMA Birmingham Update

News from ARMA Birmingham Group

Following the very successful area group co-ordinators meeting at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here in Birmingham we look forward to 2013 with renewed hope to improve on what we have achieved in past years: to increase our membership through communication with other groups; set new targets; and increase our links with health professionals.

Our initial problem here in Birmingham is that we will lose the meeting facility we have had the privilege to have free of charge at King Edwards High School since the beginning of the ARMA group. This has only been possible with the help of Irene Bannister who has been with us from the beginning of the group, Irene being a retired deputy head from the school. We have been assisted in finding new accommodation for our meetings by Kanter Kumar who is a Research Specialist at our City Hospital. Kanter is currently working at the University Hospital Birmingham and is able to secure a meeting room for our group at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Apart from attending our meetings Kanter also gives us our link with the Rheumatoid Arthritis support group at City Hospital.

In 2013 we are looking to support two specialist nurses from the R.A. Clinics at Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals. In September of the new year they will travel to Africa to make a sponsored climb of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for NRAS. From the Birmingham Group we offer them our good wishes and full support and any assistance we are able to give.

John Wright of ARMA Birmingham wants to “take this opportunity to wish all at ARMA head office and all at ARMA area groups a happy and successful new year.”
