CEO update - Not back but forward
by Sue Brown, ARMA CEO Over the last few weeks I have been so impressed with the way the world of MSK has responded to the extraordinary challenge of the coronavirus outbreak. I have seen everyone working to deliver across professional and organisational boundaries at unprecedented speed. Of course, no one ever wants to face a crisis like this and we can’t work at this pace all the time. But we have shown what can be achieved if we pull together around a common aim.…

by Amanda Hensman-Crook FCSP, HEE AHP National Clinical Fellow, Consultant MSK Physiotherapist Neil Langridge FCSP, Consultant MSK Physiotherapist Laura Finucane FCSP, MSK Consultant MSK Physiotherapist Chris Mercer FCSP, MSK Consultant MSK Physiotherapist
MSK First Contact Practitioner roles and the advancing practice agenda is moving at pace and as a result, there has been some anxiety around the MSK First Contact workforce. This has been expressed about several aspects of the roles, including: numbers needed to ensure sustainability without wider destabilisation of the MSK workforce; where the workforce will come from with the requisite capability; concern about governance of the roles; who provides the supervision and support…

Paediatric Rheumatology – Coronavirus webinar
The needs of children with inflammation/pain and their families in the context of coronavirus
Friday 5 June 2020, 12.30 – 1.30pm
The last month has seen a lot of focus on immediate responses to the coronavirus outbreak – assessing a patient's risk in relation to the virus; which services can be suspended and which need to continue; how to deliver online appointments. What are the differences when considering children and their families in a healthcare setting at this and other times?
In this webinar a parent, rheumatologist and specialist nurse discuss these issues and how services might best respond.
The webinar is aimed at anyone working with paediatric rheumatology patients including rheumatologists, nurses, physiotherapists, paediatricians, GPs, and managers of paediatric services.
It is for those who want to explore approaches, ideas, dilemmas and solutions and learn how we can make sure we hear the paediatric voice in these unprecedented times.

Key coronavirus MSK resources
The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is a fast-moving situation. There is a plethora of guidance available. ARMA is responding, coordinating directly with NHSE and alliance members on key advice and issues.
ARMA has created a webpage for coronavirus (Covid-19) designed to provide easy access to the most relevant NHS resources and musculoskeletal guidance documents. This document is live and we are reviewing and updating it regularly, as appropriate.
We are providing regular updates to our members via Zoom meetings, email and on our social media channels, too.

NAIF inpatient falls
The first report of the new continuous National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF) provides a detailed look into the care and management of patients who sustain a hip fracture as the result of a fall while they are in hospital. Falls are the most frequently reported incident affecting hospital inpatients, with 247,000 falls occurring in inpatient settings each year in England alone.
